KUTZTOWN, Pa. (September 8, 2012) – The LIU Post women's soccer team scored two unassisted goals in the first half, and held on for a 2-1 victory over Kutztown University on Saturday afternoon.
The Pioneers improve to 3-0-1 on the season while Kutztown evens at 2-2-0.
Junior forward Alexa Niciforo (East Islip, N.Y.) staked the Pioneers to a 1-0 lead at 15:06 in the first when she took a shot from 25 yards out that sailed into the top left corner of the net.
Freshman Hanna Westerling (Alvadalen, Sweden) doubled the lead in the 31st minute as she put a rebound into the back of the net from five yards out.
The Pioneers held onto the lead despite being outshot by a 13-3 count, as senior goalkeeper Nicole Fierro (East Hampton, N.Y.) posted five saves.
The Golden Bears made it a close game as Crystal Zerbe scored on a penalty kick at 64:46, but the Pioneers were able to close out the game and hold on for the victory.
Next up for LIU Post is a matchup at Holy Family, slated for Sept. 12 at 4 p.m.
